Episode No. 8

Making a Seat at the Table with Suzanne Johnson and Gail Scott

Limiting beliefs keep us from achieving our own potential.

In this episode of Owning Your Legacy, I sit down with my dear friend, Dr. Suzanne Johnson, who is the vice president of consumer R&D for the North American division of McCormick and Company.

Suzanne and I have been each other’s advocates through many of life’s challenges: deaths, births, loves, kids, and career challenges. We talk about keeping it real and not letting the titles and hierarchy of the corporate worlds we live in keep us from finding our voice and our value.

As a matter of fact, we want to transform that corporate culture to one of openness, vulnerability, advocacy, and transparency.

We have both aspired to leadership positions in the food industry—an industry we are proud to be a part of and have immense passion for. It is ripe with opportunity to enrich the lives of many.

Enjoy this conversation where we discuss the learnings through our trials and tribulations that taught us to never abdicate our power or our values because we felt unsure of our leadership.

In fact, that humility is power.

Gail Scott, Edlong’s Director of Administration, adds perspective to the conversation around the intention and role of leadership that is profound.

“You do not have to be in power to be a leader.”

Truer words were never spoken. She describes her journey towards finding her voice at the table. Thank God, she did. It is so needed and so insightful.

Learn more on how you can continue to show up—and stand up—for yourself in your career, no matter what rooms you’re in.
